Clear answers. Practical next steps. Support that fits your life.
If you suspect ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) for yourself or your child, an assessment can help you understand what’s going on and what support will actually make day-to-day life easier.
Understanding the Assessment
What is ADHD?
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition linked to differences in attention regulation, impulse control, and activity levels. Symptoms typically begin in childhood and can affect school, work, relationships, and wellbeing though many people only recognise the signs later in life.
We assess children (6+) and adults, adapting our approach to suit age, communication style, and sensory needs.
ADHD can present in different ways, including:
– Predominantly inattentive (focus, organisation, forgetfulness)
– Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive (restlessness, impulsive decisions)
– Combined presentation (a mix of both)
Signs you might want an ADHD assessment
You don’t need to “tick every box” to seek an assessment. People often reach out because things feel harder than they “should” even when they’re trying their best.
In children and teens, you may notice:
‣ Difficulty focusing, following instructions, or finishing tasks
‣ Forgetting homework, losing items, messy organisation
‣ Big emotions, frustration, or meltdowns
‣ Restlessness, fidgeting, interrupting
‣ Challenges with friendships or behaviour at school
In adults, common signs include:
‣ Chronic overwhelm, procrastination, or “ADHD paralysis”
‣ Time blindness, lateness, missed deadlines
‣ Difficulty starting tasks (even important ones)
‣ Forgetfulness, losing items, unfinished projects
‣ Emotional ups and downs, rejection sensitivity
‣ Work/relationship strain, burnout cycles
Many people also have overlapping traits with anxiety, depression, autism, dyslexia, or sensory differences part of the assessment is teasing apart what’s ADHD and what might be something else.
What Happens Next & Practicalities
What an ADHD assessment looks like
A proper ADHD assessment gathers information from more than one place not just a questionnaire.
Typically, this includes:
✔ A detailed conversation about current challenges and strengths
✔ Developmental history (including childhood)
✔ Review of school reports / family input where available
✔ Screening tools and structured clinical questions
✔ Consideration of other explanations (sleep, trauma, anxiety, autism, etc.)
What you’ll get after the assessment
Depending on the outcome, you’ll receive:
✔ A clear explanation of the findings
✔ Whether the results support an ADHD diagnosis
✔ Personalised recommendations (home, school, work)
✔ A written report you can use for support/adjustments (where relevant)
If ADHD isn’t the best explanation, you’ll still leave with clarity and next steps.
Who we assess
• Adults (18+)
• Children and young people (6+)
If you’re unsure which pathway fits, get in touch. We’ll point you in the right direction.
How to prepare (simple checklist)
To make the assessment smoother, it helps to gather:
• A short list of your top struggles (3–5 examples)
• Any relevant school reports or feedback
• Past diagnoses, medications, or mental health history
• For adults: a parent/relative who can share childhood info (if possible)
Don’t worry if you can’t collect everything. We’ll work with what you have.
