Women and Autism
Autistic women have different strengths and challenges from men. Some girls and women can “mask” their difficulties very well. This means their autism can be harder for others to recognise and understand. Girls and women can often present with difficulties such as anxiety first. Have a look at “Jenny’s poem” video- to explore women and autism.

What is Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)?
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a condition that affects people’s behaviour. People with ADHD can seem restless, may have trouble concentrating and may act on impulse.

Adults with ADHD may find they have problems with:

Some adults may also have issues with relationships or social interaction.

ADHD testing – using the QBCheck test.
The NICE medtech innovation briefing (MIB 318) for QbTest for the assessment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) Published: 07 March 2023. -states that the QbTest is being used at 131 sites across 65 NHS trusts. That’s why we will also conduct a clinical interview and history in line with the NICE guidance

Autism ADHD Test Why processing information is different for autistic people
Processing information can be difficult, with some autistic people telling us ’My brain feels like its exploding’.
See what Luis, Rose, Chris and Rosie have to say about this.
If this is, you and assessment can be the start of it all making sense
What strategies can help children?

Social stories
The National Autistic society recommends the use of social stories, created by carol grey in 1991. This technique presents information in a literal, ‘concrete’ way, which may improve a person’s understanding of a previously difficult or ambiguous situation or activity. The presentation and content can be adapted to meet different people’s needs.
They can help with sequencing (what comes next in a series of activities) and ‘executive functioning’ (planning and organising).
Look at this excellent video from the early autism project to see how they work
By providing information about what might happen in a particular situation, and some guidelines for behaviour, you can increase structure in a person’s life and thereby reduce anxiety.
Creating or using a social story can help you to understand how the autistic person perceives different situations.
We do joint Autism and ADHD assessments for the one price, with our special offer. Ask about our joint assessment special offer when you enquire.
Our Autism and ADHD special offer includes a free ADHD assessment (as long as the person is suitable). We know Autism and ADHD often occur together, so it makes sense to get assessed for both.
